The Veeam server was setup on 6/14/2017 and is running version 9.5 of
the Veeam Backup and Replication Software. The defaults for the backup
jobs is as follows:
- Each backup is setup with forward replication, weekly synthetic
backups, and monthly active backups.
- Forward replication means that to restore to an incremental
backup, we would restore to a previous synthetic or active
backup and apply the restore points accordingly
- The synthetic backup, takes the last full backup and injects all
of the incremental backups
- The active backup is a full new copy
- All backups are saved for a total of 180 days, this may need to be
revised down in the event of a space issue
- All of the backups are stored on the FILESHARE NAS Storage Box in
the Veeam Folder.
- Permissions are restricted to Domain Admins and the Veeam User
- Remote into the Veeam Server (10.10.30.49 or Veeam as Specified by
the DNS Server)
- Open Veeam Backup and Replication
- Click Virtual Machines in the Bottom Left hand corner
- Select The Virtual Machine from the Left Hand Nav
- Locate the machine you want to add the backup for
- Right Click the machine and select Add to backup job>New Job...
- Name the job using the VM Name
- Click next
- Verify the correct machine is listed
- Click next
- Verify the Backup repository is Fileshare Veeam
- Change Retention Policy to 180 Days
- Click advanced (Bottom Right Corner) and verify the following
settings
- Mode = Incremental
- Create synthetic full backups periodically is checked and the
Create on is Sunday
- Active full backup is enable for the last Sunday of the month
- Click next
- Verify nothing is checked on Guest Processing
- Click next
- Set the job to run automatically and specify a time in off hours
- Click apply
- Click finish
- Set a reminder on your outlook calendar to check the job the
following day to ensure the backup was completed.
