The following are some definitions of the employment classifications so that you can better understand your employment status. Please note that your classification is based on your job description and the nature of the position determines if you are eligible for overtime pay. These classifications do not guarantee employment for any specified timeframe.
- Exempt vs Non-Exempt:
- Exempt employees’ job duties, responsibilities and salary place them in an executive, administrative, professional, or outside sales capacity as defined by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and applicable state law. Exempt Employees will not receive additional compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week.
- While “overtime” is not available for exempt employees, management may take hours worked into account for bonus opportunities.
- Non-Exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay according to the provisions of the FLSA and applicable state law.
- Full-Time vs Part-Time:
- Full-Time employees are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Part-Time employees are any employees who work less than 30 hours per week. The number of hours will be specified per agreement between the employee and Operations, then approved by management.
