Discovery is the process of gathering requirements from the client and providing re-estimates (using the initial estimates provided by the sales team as a baseline). Our goal is to over communicate during the process while moving through the process quickly and efficiently. Here are a few high level tenants to keep in mind when going through discoveries:
We should be able to provide re-estimates no longer than five weeks after the first discovery meeting
Communicate the hours balance of discovery at the beginning of each meeting
Use the line items from the original estimates (provided by the sales team) for the agendas for discovery calls - this will allow us to easily explain to the client when something that they are requesting is additional scope
Any new information or request (whether being a part of the original estimates or new scope) that will add additional complexity must be called out immediately to the client ("We can absolutely do that for you, but I do need to call out that this request adds additional complexity which will increase the hours needed to complete this")
High Level Architecture (HLE - how we get re-estimates) should be completed between meetings - if this is falling behind, notify Brandon immediately
The BRD and Miro should be worked on concurrently and updated between each discovery meeting
Risk areas must be documented in the "Risk Area" section of the BRD, as well as explicitly communicated to the client either in real time or as a follow up after the meeting
The re-estimates sheet will be put together by the BA - once this is complete, a meeting will be scheduled with the BA, PM, Chris Reddick, Brandon Murphy, Eric Weathers and the Architect (if applicable)
Once the re-estimates are approved internally, the meeting to present them to the client will be scheduled
